Playing SWG for a while out of nostalgia in turn made us nostalgic for games that actually work, and meanwhile Blizzard has been sending us this free trial offer for the Burning Crusade… so… we decided to see how WoW looks these days. I haven’t played it enough yet to decide how I feel about it, but it does definitely come back to you fast. And I have never found any other game as satisfying when it comes to pounding on monsters.
Rather than leaving in a huff as we did with SWG, we sort of drifted away from WoW. Part of it was that we wanted to keep looking for that Holy Grail of a game that would combine effective combat and questing with more variation in character class, appearance, and how you can spend your time (we didn’t find it), and the other was that as 50-somethings we could look down the road to the end of the quest content, and that was sort of discouraging. Maybe we’ll feel the same way again if we get to 60-something now in the expansion – but who cares, it’s a game. We’ll see how it goes.
