They never fit and I have to have a hand free wherever I go so that I can pull them up every few minutes. I should amend that. I got one pair from Old Navy that did fit, but promptly fell apart. Old Navy does make an attempt to make their jeans fit, just on really skinny people. In addition to the pair that fit great but then unraveled, I had a couple of pairs that fit for a while, but then didn’t after I had gained weight for a month or two, as one tends to do when pregnant. Currently I am down to K-Mart maternity pants, which are not designed to fit anyone. They appear to be regular jeans with a fat elastic waistband (which constantly gets creased and folded), with no other concessions to the large round object they are supposed to accommodate.
At least the K-Mart uncomfortable jeans were only $20. I looked all over the place when I was buying maternity pants, and found that most places, especially those catering to maternity needs, charge $50 for their uncomfortable pants. If they have your size in stock. Which they don’t. I have one pair of pants that is of the “full panel” type, and they create the “full panel” by sticking a narrow band of elastic at the end of a long tube of thin fabric in such a way the elastic rides stubbornly at the point of widest girth, with no way of adjusting it. Not only is that the most uncomfortable place for elastic, what do they accomplish by putting it there? There is not any curve there for it to hold on to, so they still fall down. But are twice as uncomfortable as they do so.
You may be tempted to comment on this post, “oh! You can get maternity pants from ‘X’!” No, I can’t. I already looked there, believe me. Anyway, I give up. I only have another month or two of holding my pants up.

Maybe suspenders?
I’ve had to get into maternity pants already, which kind of annoyed me. Right now they’re pretty loose, and I’m rolling the full panel ones down. I see what you’re saying, though. I’m hiding the pregnancy from my students, but spending half my time hauling up my pants in front of them has been interesting. Of course, I’m way heavier than you, so maybe they’ll stay up for me better later on, when I have more belly to support them. I already have a big belly to start with, so it’ll be like I’m carrying twins or something. I sympathize. The lack of nice maternity clothes sucks. At least they’ve gotten rid of most of the nautical-themed outfits that you used to see everywhere.
I am SO with you! I am 37 weeks with my 2nd child and have been so frustrated by my PANTS! I know the under-belly styles are supposed to be more stylish – and that’s pretty much all you can find these days – but I hate them. Give me the big ‘ole belly panel any day. I have one pair of decent jeans, thanks to my sister who somehow found this pair. Of course, it’s too hot for jeans now, so I’m back to hiking up my jeans. I found 2 skirts that I’ve been wearing to death. Although I’ve never been a huge skirt wearer, they are more comfy than extra bulges of cloth in my crotch when the pants fall down.
