Cory short take #21: a few updates

Over the last few days, Cory has added practicing bending way down to pick up toys from the floor to his routine of practicing walking along the furniture. He can actually get himself all the way down to the floor safely while chasing a toy that he dropped, but tends to forget how to do it when he wants to get down for any other reason.

Cory is now eating cheerios himself. Approximately 2/3 of them miss his mouth, but he sure enjoys the rest. This is really good progress, because I think it was only a week ago that I spent the better part of an hour convincing him that they were edible.

He has crawled across the room once, but not since then. He mostly gets on his knees in preparation for pulling himself up on furniture. It hasn’t occurred to him as a means of getting from point A to point B. But he can do it.

Cory has a pretty good commando crawl going now. The only part he hasn’t figured out is to alternate his legs.

Cory has started using his knees and toes to help get himself around. It works pretty well. Thud has noted that he has little rug burns on his knees.

The upside is now that he can flip and scooch himself all over the room, he is much better at keeping himself entertained. The downside is that he has to be watched like an ‘awk.

As of this morning, Cory can get himself across the room. He doesn’t crawl yet, although every now and then you see his butt go up a little as he experiments with using his knees for traction. But he can turn and flip himself and make his way around the floor – surprisingly quickly, in fact.

In the last week or so, it’s gotten extremely difficult to get diapers on him, since he got very good at squirming his way away to go do something else. Now we know what he had in mind.

When he’s on the floor now he likes to roll over onto his belly and then hold all his arms and legs up. This has the effect of making it look like he’s given up trying to crawl across the floor and is hoping he’ll fly instead. (So much for the Hitchhiker’s Guide books – if it were possible I’m sure he would have done it by now…)
